Nimbic Systems’ mission
is to provide technologies to reduce the chances of infection during high-risk
surgical procedures.
Patients contracting infections after high-risk surgeries face considerable
physical, emotional, and economic hardships. Without new technologies,
treatments, and practices, it is likely that the incidence of these morbidities
will increase significantly in the future. The use of prophylactic antibiotics
masks the underlying reality that microorganisms shed by surgical staffs are
being introduced into patients’ exposed surgical sites. Antibiotics are
currently able to prevent these organisms from gaining a toe-hold in most cases,
but this may not be the case in years to come. We at Nimbic Systems believe that
the solution to this problem lies in the prevention of wound site contamination
rather than the mitigation of contamination effects. We believe the technologies
we are developing will shape the way high-risk surgeries are performed and
reduce the likelihood that patients be subjected to the life-changing effects of
nosocomial infection.
